The aim is to provide an incentive for learners to improve and for them to experience the pressure of competition in a non-threatening situation.

The challenge is open to any piper who has not competed or who is graded a novice or D grade piper.

A piper can challenge the person one level ahead of them on the board.  The piper making the challenge can specify the tune to be played.

The challenge must be completed within two weeks at an agreed time and place.

The challenge will be adjudicated by a senior band piper.
